How predictions work

Why GrownPaws feels different

Evidence first

Dog adult-weight estimates use GrownPaws maths where the breed and age are supported. Cats use curated breed-typical adult ranges. The core path stays deterministic and works even when AI is off.

Honest about limits

You get ranges and plain confidence words, not invented precision. When a breed, age, or sex sits outside what we can support, we say so instead of guessing a neat number.

Calm and free

No account, no paywall, phone-first. Optional photo peek for coat and colour notes only. GrownPaws is a growth sketchbook, never a veterinary diagnosis.

How it works

How GrownPaws works

GrownPaws separates what you observe, what reference data supports, and what we can responsibly predict. When evidence is missing, we say so instead of inventing numbers.

Dog adult-weight estimates use a GrownPaws model where supported. Cats currently use breed-typical references only.

  1. Observe

Share what you know today: species, age, breed mix, and sex. An optional photo can add coat and colour notes only.

  2. Reference

We match that against curated breed and growth references. No invented numbers fill the gaps.

  3. Predict

You get ranges and plain confidence words where evidence supports them. When it does not, we say so.

A calm predictor with transparent methods

GrownPaws is built around one question: what will your puppy or kitten be like when they are grown up? The interactive notebook above is the product. The scraps below explain size, growth, and appearance in plain language, and where honesty matters more than a neat answer.

Read the full method on Methodology, including sources we cite.

Puppy adult size and growth

Puppies of different adult size classes grow on different timelines. Small dogs often mature earlier; large and giant dogs usually keep growing longer. GrownPaws uses curated breed references plus, where eligible, deterministic adult-weight maths grounded in open growth-chart research for dogs.

A useful estimate needs honest inputs: species, breed context, age, sex, and current weight. Mixed breeding, unknown parent size, and rough ages widen the range. We show confidence in plain words so a broad band is never dressed up as certainty.

Kitten adult size and growth

Kittens change quickly in the first months, then growth slows toward adult size. Pedigree cats and mixed domestic cats are not the same evidence problem. Where we have supported breed-typical adult ranges, we surface them. Where we do not, we say the gap is real instead of inventing a curve.

Open domestic-shorthair kitten growth research informs careful context for some common mixed-coat situations. It is not treated as a universal adult-weight predictor for every cat breed.

Coat and appearance as they grow

Coat length, colour, and pattern can shift between puppy or kitten stages and adulthood. Ear carriage, body build, and markings may also change. GrownPaws separates what curated references support from what an optional photo can only hint at visually.

Photo notes, when enabled, describe visible cues. They do not replace breed references, do not invent adult weight, and do not diagnose health from an image.

not a clinicIs GrownPaws a veterinary diagnosis?

No. GrownPaws gives informational estimates for adult size, growth stage, and appearance. It does not diagnose health conditions. If you are concerned about your pet’s growth or health, speak with a qualified veterinarian.

ranges onlyHow does the puppy adult weight estimate work?

For eligible dog paths, GrownPaws uses deterministic maths with curated breed and growth references. You get ranges and plain confidence words, not a fake precise number. Coverage depends on breed, age, and other inputs.

no fake curveCan you predict a kitten’s exact adult weight?

Cats use curated breed-typical adult ranges where we have supported references. GrownPaws does not run an experimental personalised kitten-to-adult weight model. Domestic shorthair-style growth research is used carefully as context, not as a curve for every cat breed.

optionalDo I need an account or a photo?

No account is required. A photo is optional and, when AI photo notes are available, is only used for visible coat and appearance cues. The core growth path works without AI and without a photo.

honest firstWhy do results talk about confidence and limits?

Pets vary. Mixed breeding, unknown ages, incomplete sex, and thin breed data all reduce certainty. GrownPaws prefers honest limits over invented precision. Methodology and sources explain what we can and cannot support.

always freeIs GrownPaws free?

Yes. The main prediction experience is free, with no paywall. Optional tips or ads may appear later to help cover hosting; they are not required to get a result.
